Telephone all patients having a physiatry clinic appointment for the upcoming week. Filing and preparing clinics.

AV Support
M/T/Th – am/pm

Set up the AV systems for presentations and update the plasma screen information

Dining Room Support
Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri/Sun
11:45 am-12:45 pm/4:45 - 5:45 pm

Socializing and Feeding patients

Unit Support
Weekdays/weekends
Afternoon/evenings

Assist nurses, patients and families with various duties associated with the Spinal Cord In-patient Units.

Facilitating integration of newly admitted patients onto the unit (Admissions/Discharge Support), facilitating social interaction with patients (Patient Support), making family members feel welcomed (Family Support), and supporting and assisting staff (Administrative Support).

Unit Support Team Leader
Ideally 2xs week for 3 hours; flexible; Monday through Sunday

 

Provide ongoing leadership, support and mentoring for the Unit Support volunteer placement.

Responsibilities (may and/or may not include):

  • Foster a welcoming, positive, safe and supportive relationship with unit support volunteers
  • Communicate and problem-solve with the staff contact, meeting together regularly
  • Create and monitor weekly unit support schedule
  • Keep communication binder up-to-date
  • Set up a buddy system between seasoned and new volunteers
  • Act as mentor to unit support volunteers and develop their leadership abilities
  • Assist Consultant, Volunteer Resources with training of new volunteers
  • Identify volunteer and program needs
  • Plan and organize placement meetings, activities and education/education sheets for volunteers in conjunction with staff contact and Volunteer Resources

Music Group Program Support
Daytime & Weekdays

Preferably guitar players

Therapeutic Recreation Games Volunteer
Wednesday evening
6 pm - 8 pm

Volunteer to set up card games for spinal cord patients

Roman Catholic Mass, Chaplaincy
Tuesday 11:30 am

Assist the chaplaincy program by escorting patients to and from the weekly Mass and assisting in preventing patients from wandering from the designated area.

Socialization Support
(Times are flexible based on supervisor’s schedule) Daytime & weekdays
Will received additional 6 hours of Non-Violent crisis intervention training with this position

Enrich the quality of life of patients through activities that promote socialization.  E.g. Engage in recreation / leisure activities with patient and Therapeutic Recreationist (i.e.: watching TV, reading, playing cards, writing letters etc

Wellness Program Support

Assist with different Wellness programs ie: Karoke, Bingo, Sit & be-fit. Assist patients in participating in the hospital wide programs
