Interested in volunteering at Toronto Rehab? To volunteer, you
must:
> be 16 years of age or older
> be willing to commit to your placement for at least six months
> contribute at least three to four hours once a week
The following are the steps involved in becoming a volunteer with us.
| 1. | Select where you want to volunteer There's a variety of areas in which you can volunteer. We suggest you take a look at the partial list on our main page and browse through the Patient Care and other sections of the Toronto Rehab website to help you better understand the work and goals of Toronto Rehab. |
| 2. | Submit an application Using our on-line form is the fastest way to send us your application. You may also obtain and submit an application in person or by regular mail. For location information and our address, click here. |
| 3. | Attend an interview Once your application is received and if a volunteer role matching you areas of interest, skills and qualifications is available, you will be contacted for an interview. Once an interview is scheduled you will be asked to provide the names and addresses of two professional references (i.e. not family or friends). Recent letters of reference (less than one year old) may be accepted. |
| 4. | Complete a health record
form Approved candidates for our volunteer program are expected to complete a health record form with the help of their family physician. This form will be provided during the interview. Please note: Toronto Rehab does not reimburse any fees your physician may charge for this service. |
| 5. | Agree to a police record check Some volunteer positions at Toronto Rehab require a police record check. This process will be explained during the interview. |
| 6. | Attend orientation Once we receive your completed health record form, you will be scheduled to attend a mandatory orientation that consists of a summary of Toronto Rehab, infection control, emergency procedures, confidentiality, etc. |
| 7. | Placement and training Your placement and position specific training will be arranged once you have successfully completed the above steps. |
Things to keep in mind:
| | Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be accepted into the program. |
| | The process to become a volunteer has several steps (all of which are important) and may take some time. This intake process was developed in order to best serve the patients and staff, and potential volunteers of Toronto Rehab. |
