Congratulations winners and participants: Toronto Rehab Research Day 2009

Toronto Rehab's 5th Annual Research Day was marked by action–packed one–minute presentations and intriguing illustrative posters. Congratulations to all participants and to the students and postdoctoral fellows honoured with these awards:

Team Excellence Awards 2009
Winners of the Team Excellence Awards 2009 were: Julia O. Totosy de Zepetnek (Activity Team), April Arundine and Michael Hutchison (Cognition Team), Michael Massimi (Communication Team), Jake Yoon (Mobility Team), Sarah Munce (Team Optimize), Pearl Yang (Sleep and Cardiopulmonary Function Team) and Rosalie Wang (Technology Team).

Poster and Presentation Prizes
Poster Prizes were presented to Avril Mansfield (Postdoctoral) for the project, Relationship Between Standing Balance and White Matter Changes in Individuals with Dementia and Cognitive Impairment; Ada Tang (PhD) for Adapting cardiac rehabilitation for individuals with stroke; and to Milad Alizadeh–Meghrazi (Master's) for Wave® vs. Juvent": Whole—Body Vibration Assessment Feasibility & Usability for Patients with SCI.

Jessica Neuman and Romeo Colobong won the People's Choice Minute Madness prize for explaining the impact and significance of a research project—all in less than a minute. Their presentation was entitled, Identifying Factors that Enable and Constrain Client–Centred Care in Brain Injury Rehab.

Mike Massimi (and colleagues) took the award for Best Digital Media Presentation for their project, Context–aware Mobile Communication Aids.

Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Scholarship in Rehabilitation–related Research for Graduate Students with Disabilities
Recipients of scholarship renewals for 2009–2010 were: Gail Kunkel, Laura Moll and Nadine Richard. The scholarship, funded by TD Bank Financial Group, helps exemplary students to become world–class scientists.

More than 200 people attended Toronto Rehab Research Day, which featured 80 presentations and guest speaker Adalsteinn D. Brown, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health System Strategy Division, Ministry of Health and Long$ndash;Term Care, on the topic of caregiving in the future.
