Advancements in medical care are most often made through groundbreaking research. The same holds true in rehabilitation, the science of helping individuals overcome physical and cognitive challenges including stroke, trauma, heart disease, cancer, spinal cord injury, brain injury, arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease.
One of the world's most advanced rehabilitation research facilities is being built in the heart of Canada's 'Discovery District' in downtown Toronto. These advanced laboratories will bring together the brightest research minds and state-of-the-art technology to improve the lives of individuals recovering from, and living with, disabling injury and illness and age-related conditions.
iDAPT – Intelligent Design for Adaptation, Participation and Technology – is a vision unique to the world, where ideas, investigation and inventions will advance rehabilitation practices by inspiring researchers, empowering consumers, stimulating industry partnerships and accelerating innovation.
This vision is imaginative – its implications, practical.
Making life more livable...through research
Until now, our ability to see how older people and adults with disabilities fare day-to-day has been limited by a lack of in situ research facilities. What Canada needs is a research environment where ideas can be cultivated, tested and applied in the real world.
Toronto Rehab’s iDAPT facilities will significantly change the landscape of rehabilitation research in Canada by creating and sharing with the world new knowledge, treatments and assistive technologies to improve and enhance the lives of older people and those living with disabling injury or illness.
