Collaboration + Vision = the future of rehabilitation science

At Toronto Rehab, we are bringing together the brightest research minds and state-of-the-art technology in a collaborative venture, one that involves participants from both the public and private sectors who share a vision of improving the quality of life for older people and those living with disabilities.

Research conducted at iDAPT will be led by investigators from the University of Toronto and from other academic centres across Canada and throughout the world. Canadian institutions such as Bloorview Kids Rehab, Dalhousie University, McGill University, Laval University, Wilfrid Laurier University, Simon Fraser University, The University of Western Ontario and the University of Waterloo will help make iDAPT a vibrant rehabilitation research centre.

Important new partnerships will also be developed with international academic institutions such as SUNY at Buffalo, the University of Florida, the University of Washington, the University of Dundee in Scotland, the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering in England, and several partners in The Netherlands.

Funding for iDAPT has been provided by the federal government through the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Research Hospital Fund and by the provincial government through the Ontario Innovation Trust and the Ministry of Research and Innovation. Local, national and international private-sector partnerships will be vital to iDAPT research and to the development of practical interventions and products to help make life more livable for millions of people worldwide affected by disabling injury or illness.

Toronto Rehab gratefully acknowledges the support of the following private sector partners: A-Tech Instruments Ltd; IBM Canada; Lenovo Canada; Vizcan Systems; Vicon; and International Development of Technology b v.

Part of the hospital’s capital redevelopment project, iDAPT is a major part of Toronto Rehab’s vision for patient care. That is why our community — from our patients and staff, to the University of Toronto, to donors of the Toronto Rehab Foundation — will continue to be a driving force behind the development of what will be one of the most advanced rehabilitation research facilities the world has ever seen.
