| Q. |
What
is long-term care? |
| A. |
Long-term
care is is for people who are not able to live independently
or in their own homes and who require 24-hour nursing
care to be available to meet their health and personal
care needs. Long-term care centres were previously called
nursing homes and homes for the aged.

| Q. |
What
is the difference between long-term care and complex continuing
care? |
| A. |
The
main difference is the amount of nursing care that people
require. Generally, people in complex continuing care
require a greater amount of care from nurses and other
healthcare professionals each day than people in long-term
care facilities. In addition, long-term care facilities
must meet provincial government design guidelines emphasizing
their residential rather than institutional nature.
Toronto
Rehab's Queen Elizabeth Centre, which is located on
the same grounds as Lakeside Long-Term Care Centre,
is a facility for complex continuing care.

Is
the cost of long-term care covered by OHIP? |
| A. |
The
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care pays for the care
received by all residents. Residents cover the cost of
their accommodation. Accommodation rates are set by the
government and apply to all long-term care facilities
in Ontario. For more information, please contact the Toronto
