The Complex
MSK Service specializes in treating patients who have significant
functional mobility and movement impairments related to the musculoskeletal
system. Patients receive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydro/pool
therapy and education to improve their level of independence in
daily living.

This new service
provides rehabilitation to people who have sustained multiple fractures
and other injuries e.g. in a motor vehicle accident. This service
works with regional trauma centres to reduce the length of time
patients currently have to wait for rehabilitation. The patient
plays an integral part in their goal planning and rehabilitation.

Oncology Rehabilitation
is for people who have cancer of the musculoskeletal system (i.e.
bone and tissue tumours, bone marrow transplants). Rehab is particularly
important to minimize the potential for long-term disability among
cancer survivors. Therapy focuses on helping patients regain previous
levels of functioning or to adjust to new limitations. There is
also an education-based outpatient component to this service.

Prevention
and Rehabilitation of Osteoporosis (PRO) Service

The PRO Service
offers exercise, education and peer support to individuals with
osteoporosis or to those who are at risk of developing the disease.
Patients learn about:

How
to cope with pain and emotional issues |
The
service team includes a physiatrist, physiotherapist, and exercise
specialist. Patients will also have consultations with a pharmacist,
nutritionist, and occupational therapist. All patients receive a
medical assessment, that includes bone density tests and exercise
testing to determine fitness levels, in order to establish the diagnosis
and severity of osteoporosis. Patients receive ongoing support and
regular medical reassessments, group exercise classes, and physiotherapy
intervention.
