Toronto Rehab’s 2009 MS Rehab Symposium, is a one-day event that will focus on improving psychosocial wellness through health promotion for persons with MS.

Conference Objectives:
This symposium will define health promotion in persons with MS as the use of emotional, cognitive and behavioural strategies to nurture his/her overall physical, mental and social health. A multifaceted and integrated approach to health promotion will facilitate well-being, highest possible level of function and optimal quality of life for persons with MS.

Our aim is to provide a forum for networking and collaboration amongst providers of MS rehabilitation services interested in enhancing health within the context of a disabling condition.  The purpose of this conference is to enable health professionals to enhance this process by:

  1. Understanding and promoting the use of group health promotion programs
  2. Applying communication techniques as tools to increase health promoting behaviours
  3. Advocating for appropriate housing, home supports and employee rights
  4. Appreciating the impact of disease modifying therapies (DMTs) and the newest medications on quality of life, every day activities and participation in rehabilitation
  5. Utilizing updated strategies on critical clinical issues including bladder and bowel continence, communications, and health promotion strategies
