Since 1999, the Foundation has made grants of $23.8 million to support the following Toronto Rehabilitation Institute priorities in patient care, research, education, and capital redevelopment:
- $6.8 million toward the redevelopment of the University and Lyndhurst Centres
- $3.0 million toward major renovations and infrastructure upgrades at the Lyndhurst, University and E.W. Bickle Centres
- $2.7 million in ongoing research support
- $2.0 million toward the Saunderson Family Chair in Acquired Brain Injury Research
- $2.0 million toward a Chair in Spinal Cord Injury Research
- $1.5 toward a joint Research Chair held at the University of Toronto
- $1.0 million toward a $3.0 million scholarship fund at U of T
- $0.7 million toward an additional Research Chair
- $0.6 million in Research Chair Support
- $0.3 million toward the E.W. Bickle Centre renewal project (part of a $5.0 million commitment)
- $3.2 million in grants for equipment, research and patient programs, and staff and public education. Grants in 2007-08 include:
- $101,000 for the Toronto Rehab Scholarships in Rehabilitation-Related Research for Graduate Students with Disabilities;
- $58,000 toward Spinal Cord Rehab, including audiovisual equipment for inpatient and outpatient lounges and refurbishment of the patient apartment at Lyndhurst Centre;
- $30,000 for a Cardiac research project;
- $18,500 toward Cardiac Rehab programs and equipment purchases.
- $14,700 toward Neuro Rehab programs including a community-based exercise program for patients with stroke, acquired brain injury or MS with Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department;
- $14,300 toward staff professional development;
- $14,000 from the Rick Hansen Man in Motion Fund for bed-accessible computer systems for patients at Lyndhurst Centre;
- $9,300 toward the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program’s Cottage Program;
- $8,400 toward the printing of "It's Your Healthcare -- Be Involved" brochures, in partnership with the Ontario Hospital Association;
- $7,000 toward patient Christmas presents;
- $6,700 for the purchase of washers and dryers for patient use at the E.W. Bickle Centre for Complex Continuing Care;
- $4,500 for printing of Brain Injury Service Patient Handbooks;
- $4,000 from the Kirshenblatt Scholarship Fund for student scholarships;
- $2,800 from the Kirshenblatt Entertainment Fund for patient entertainment at the E.W. Bickle Centre.
