Web Accessibility
At Toronto Rehab, we know how important it is to ensure that our information is as accessible to as broad an audience as possible. As an organization committed to removing barriers to access, this means that we extend that commitment to include our web site, a very important tool we use to communicate to and share information with the general public, health care professionals, patients and their families.
Most of the pages on our web site conform to “Level A, Priority 1” of the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative, the standard in web accessibility. In fact, Toronto Rehab is one of the first hospitals in Ontario to formally adopt these standards and achieve Level A Priority 1 status on its website.
Not only have we added other extra accessibility features to our web site, we’ve also listed some common tools you can easily access through your computer’s Internet browser.
- Click on the text size control tool available on any page throughout the web site to increase or decrease the size of the text appearing on your screen without having to adjust your browser settings. Look at the top right of the page to see the font size tool.
Formatting
- We’ve formatted our site with the following features as examples of some of the web accessibility enhancements we've made:
- Reduced the use of tables and have now used 'div' tags to help lay out the content on the page, making it easier for screen readers to properly navigate the page
- Ensured every image on the site has an associated "alt tag" so that screen readers will be able to describe the content of the image
- Higher contrast colours are used as much as possible
