First community information meeting on University Centre redevelopment

April 13, 2006Government announces approval of University Centre redevelopment and expansion through ReNew Ontario.

July 2007Government approval of the Early Works phase of the project. Early Works includes: staff relocations, internal renovations to accommodate patient care and demolition of south tower

August 2007Relocation of non-patient care services off-site to help make room for patient services to be moved from south wing in preparation for demolition

Official announcement by Minister of Health and Long-Term Care of the names of prequalified construction companies released

October 2007Release of RFP for reconstruction/renovation project

November 2007 - February 2008Site preparation begins, consisting of renovations to existing east wing to prepare more space for services vacating the south tower

January 29, 2008 Second community information meeting

February-March 2008 Site preparation work on east wing completed. Services relocate from south tower to east wing.

March – July 2008

Site preparation continues with demolition of south tower

RFP/Tender approved. Winning bidder announced.

Summer 2008  Construction of 13-storey patient care south tower begins.

2010Renovation of existing east wing and north wing begins

Late 2011  Project completed
