Unit Support volunteers
 |
Being a unit support volunteer puts you in the middle of the action – on a unit where you can directly impact on the patient health care experience and become part of an exception team focusing on delivering superior outcomes. Volunteers lend their support in many ways including:
- Patient support upon admission (e.g. unpacking clothes, offering a tour, explaining hospital services and resources)
- Accompanying medically stable patients off the unit to other parts of the hospital or to other medical facilities
- Socializing with patients (e.g. reading, writing letters, playing games, listening to music, etc.)
- Meal support with patients (i.e. unwrap/open food packaging, cutting up food, promoting the use of assistive aides, choosing menus, and feeding low risk patients)
- Patient support upon discharge
- Administrative support (e.g. filing, replenishing forms, photocopying, collecting and distributing mail, etc.)
