Patient Stories - John Shepherd

Spinal cord rehabilitation saves life.  Just ask John Shepherd.

A 2003 car accident brought the rising star in the financial world to Toronto Rehab, a leader in spinal cord rehabilitation. Our priority: get John, now living with quadriplegia, back to life.

“The first thing we focused on was just getting up in the morning,” John recalls. “Building up my physical stamina was incredibly hard.”

But he did it. Went back to work. Even completed a Harvard MBA. But the rehabilitation experience had transformed him. To healthcare. Now he educates others about spinal cord injury. And he’s on our Board, giving back.

One in two of us will be touched by disability. At Toronto Rehab, we’re revolutionizing rehabilitation, because rehabilitation saves life.

Your support of patient care can assist in improving the facilities and equipment and support innovation to help patients rebuild their lives, restore their independence and discover their own potential.

John is one of several patients who are sharing their stories in our new public awareness campaign that shows how rehabilitation saves life.
