Patient Stories - Jim Chestnutt
In 1989 Jim Chestnutt had a devastating heart attack. He was not expected to survive, but he did.
"Thanks to Toronto Rehab, I have prevented a fatal heart attack for 22 years and counting."
…Twenty-two years to watch his two boys become men. To spend at the cottage. To enjoy retirement. To fall in love with his wife every day. To walk his dog. To live.
He often thinks about what that would have meant for his wife and his two sons, who were eight and ten at the time of his heart attack.
"It's difficult to think about, especially as the holidays approach, but I do, because it reminds me to be grateful.
The holidays have always been about family for me, and the fact that my family still has me to celebrate with is a true gift. I figure I owe Toronto Rehab a lot of thanks. And the best way I know to say thank you is to give back, as a donor and a volunteer."
Jim is giving back to Toronto Rehab as a donor and as the Chair of
On Track to Cardiac Recovery – a fundraising event currently in its 9th year, which has raised more than $750,000 for rehabilitation.
"For me, donating is a gift, because I know that I have helped give another patient at Toronto Rehab a second chance at life. I got my chance, now it's time to give back. I choose to give this season in the most meaningful way I know, by making a donation.
Who could ask for a better gift to give as we approach the holidays."
At Toronto Rehab, we’re adding years to as many lives as possible. Your gift will help improve patient care and advance groundbreaking research to find more effective treatments and technology.
This year, give a gift that really matters.
