On Track to Cardiac Recovery 2012
Thank you for Supporting Cardiac Rehabilitation!
With the generous support of more than 1,000 donors, an energetic crowd of over 300 laced up their running shoes and stretched their legs to walk in support of cardiac rehabilitation on February 25 at Toronto Rehab’s 9th annual
On Track to Cardiac Recovery.
This year,
On Track reached a milestone by raising over $130,000. Toronto Rehab Foundation is now well on the way to establishing Canada’s first Chair in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Master of Ceremonies and Cardiac Rehab and Secondary Prevention Program graduate Jim Chestnutt kept everyone informed and entertained during the family event. The event was not only about the walk: the KidZone featured face painting and interactive games, an Health Expo provided helpful information about cardiac health and a silent auction offered great prizes.
Rose Reisman, successful cookbook author, business woman and media personality, gave a rousing talk, encouraging participants to eating and live well. Her company, Rose Reisman Catering supplied a delicious heart-healthy lunch.
Each participant who raised $1,000 or more was presented with an honorary medal to mark their achievement. “We are thrilled with the level of commitment and passion to give to cardiac rehabilitation,” said Cindy Yelle, President and CEO Toronto Rehab Foundation. “Toronto Rehab Foundation is proud to support this critical program and help add years to life for thousands of patients.”
Dr. Paul Oh, Medical Director of the Cardiac Program, spoke about the importance of cardiac rehabilitation and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Participants later joined Dr. Oh for a separate lecture on the future of cardiac rehabilitation. “Toronto Rehab personalizes programs to meet individual needs,” he said. “We support healthy eating habits and regular exercise as central to rehabilitation. Transformations can be remarkable.”
