President's Message

As President of the Toronto Rehab Foundation, I am privileged and proud to be a member of the Toronto Rehab community. Together, we are here to ensure that we all live long, healthy lives no matter what challenges life may bring. Patients, families and supporters work alongside passionate, dedicated teams of caregivers and researchers who are truly saving life – quality of life, independence, confidence and vitality – for those dealing with the consequences of accidents, illness and aging.
Police Constable Mark Oberhauser knows about overcoming challenges and persevering to achieve his goals. While responding to an emergency call as an officer with the Peel Regional Police, his cruiser was struck by a transport truck. Mark sustained a traumatic brain injury in the crash. After weeks in intensive care, he was transferred to Toronto Rehab’s neuro rehabilitation program, where the brain injury rehab team helped him to overcome his injury.
Mark Oberhauser and his family graciously shared their story with us to help educate people about brain injury, about the power of rehabilitation and about the need for more research in this area. They pay tribute to the team of specialists who treated Mark through a focused regimen of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, social work, neuro psychiatry and speech language pathology. We invite you to

To meet the growing needs of patient care, student learning and rehabilitation research, Toronto Rehab is redeveloping its facilities thanks to the assistance of ongoing donor support. Programs in Geriatric Rehab, Neuro Rehab and Muskuloskelatal Rehab have started occupying the new 13-storey patient care and research wing at University Centre. The iDAPT research facilities are nearing completion with a grand opening expected in November. Extensive renovations to the existing east and north wings have also started and will seamlessly integrate with the new wing to result in a state-of-the art rehabilitation hospital in downtown Toronto.
