Why should I donate to the Toronto Rehab Foundation?

Research tells us that 1 in 2 Ontarians have been touched by disability. That’s a staggering statistic that truly demonstrates the value rehabilitation can play in our community as our population ages and as demand for rehab grows. At Toronto Rehab, we believe everyone should have the freedom to continue to live at home as they age, to continue to work following an injury, to participate in their favourite recreational activities despite a chronic illness and to be active in their community. We passionately believe we can make a difference but that requires resources beyond what the hospital receives from government and insurers. Our donors are important partners in fulfilling our vision to revolutionize rehabilitation – maximize life! through patient care, leading edge research and rehabilitation science and education.

How are donors recognized by the Toronto Rehab Foundation?

Toronto Rehab Foundation gratefully recognizes its loyal donors for their community spirit and generosity. In addition to tax receipts for all donations of $10 or more, donors who give $250 or more per year are listed in the Foundation's annual report and on donor recognition boards displayed at all hospital sites. We also have special programs at various levels to recognize our valuable donors

May I specify how my donation is to be used?

Yes. Most individual donations are "unrestricted," which means they will be used by Toronto Rehab where the need is greatest. Donations can also be designated to support research, a specific program or project.

In which areas is Toronto Rehab's need for donations greatest?

The Foundation works closely with the Hospital to identify, evaluate and support priority research, education and patient care programs. Areas of greatest need include building a major research program, expanding and redeveloping facilities, acquiring new equipment, and improving education. The Foundation does not fund salaries of hospital staff or operating costs such as supplies and utilities.

How do I update my donor information with you?

If you would like to update your name, address, phone number or you would like to update your credit card or banking information for your monthly gift, please contact us by telephone at 416-597-3040 or email foundation@torontorehab.on.ca and let us know your changes.

Does the Toronto Rehab Foundation send out a card in honour or in memory of an individual?

Yes. Donors often give in memory or in honour of friends or family. When a donation is made, a card is sent to the family or individual being remembered to acknowledge the donation. The amount of the donation is kept confidential, unless the donor asks that it be disclosed.

When will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

Tax receipts are instantly generated for all donations made online. Other donations, except monthly donations, are receipted within two to three business days of receiving your gift. Monthly giving donors receive a recript for their total annual giving at the end of the calendar year.

Are donations from outside Canada tax deductible?

Donations to the Toronto Rehab Foundation may be tax deductible in other countries on income from Canadian sources. However, the Foundation cannot issue tax receipts for the USA or any other country.

How do I donate equipment, art or other property to Toronto Rehab?

New or used equipment will be gratefully accepted upon approval through the Foundation. Charitable receipts may be issued for gifts-in-kind, for the fair market value at the time of the donation. For gifts valued at a $1,000 or more a written appraisal from an external professional is required. The cost of any such appraisal is the responsibility of the donor. Does the Toronto Rehab Foundation accept future gifts through a will, securities (stocks, bonds and mutual funds) or life insurance?

Yes. Contact the Foundation at 416-597-3040. Tax receipts can be issued only at the time the gift is actually received.
