Multiple Trauma Service
The Multiple Trauma Service provides rehabilitation for individuals who have complex injuries as the result of a fall, car accident or other event.
People who experience multiple injuries (trauma) may have damage to many systems throughout their body. Their ability to carry out daily activities can be affected. The shock of an accident can also lead to emotional trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
At Toronto Rehab, we help individuals who have a significant loss of strength, function, movement or mobility as a result of:

peripheral nerve and soft tissue injuries (nerves and muscles are often damaged in serious accidents)

mild acquired brain injury (ABI) (moderate to severe brain injuries are treated in our ABI Program)

mild spinal cord injuries (moderate to severe spinal cord injuries are treated in our Spinal Cord Program)

complications following surgery

We help people to recover their abilities and to find ways to adapt to any disabilities or limitations that remain. We help them regain their emotional strength, confidence and independence so that they can live their lives to the fullest.
Exceptional Individualized Therapy Promotes Recovery
Our interprofessional health care team works with individuals and their families to develop an individualized treatment plan that meets their needs and goals.
Therapy may include a combination of physical and occupational therapy as well as complex nursing care. Patients have daily therapy sessions with up to three or four specialized therapists, depending on their needs.
Patients may also receive care from a psychologist to help them deal with the impact of the trauma and post-traumatic stress.
Our social worker and occupational therapist work closely with patients to assist them to:

put in place any care or support they will need after discharge

link with community care providers

coordinate benefits with insurance companies
The average length of stay in hospital is four to five weeks.
