Complex MSK Service

The Complex Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service provides rehabilitation for individuals with complex injuries or illnesses.

We help individuals who have a significant loss of strength, function, movement or mobility as a result of:
  • hip or knee replacements
  • hip fractures, including people with special needs as a result of dementia
  • multiple or complex fractures
  • complications from surgery
  • multiple health issues such as arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease

Exceptional Individualized Therapy Improves Recovery

We focus on superior outcomes for each and every patient. Our interprofessional health care team works with individuals and their families to develop an individualized treatment plan that meets their needs and goals.

Our physiatrists (doctors who specialize in rehabilitation medicine) regularly assess each individual’s progress and make any necessary changes to ensure that rehabilitation is optimized.

Toronto Rehab is also at the forefront of setting new standards for improved pain management. We work closely with patients to find the pain management strategies that work for them.

Daily rehabilitation is provided to patients from Monday to Friday. They may have three or four specialized therapy sessions a day, depending on their needs.

Hip and knee replacement patients are usually discharged after seven to 10 days. Hip fracture patients remain with us for two to four weeks. For other patients, the average length of stay is three to four weeks.

Continuing Recovery in the Community

At Toronto Rehab, we also provide a full range of interprofessional rehabilitation care in our outpatient clinics and follow-up clinics to help patients continue the progress they began while in hospital. These services are fully integrated to ensure a smooth transition when people are discharged from hospital.
