Complex Injury Outpatient Rehab Service

The Complex Injury Outpatient Rehab Service is an outpatient assessment and treatment service for people with serious injuries or illness as the result of a car accident or a work-related injury or stroke.
The Service specializes in complex injuries such as:
  • moderate to severe acquired brain injury (ABI)

  • multiple fractures or injuries

  • stroke

Comprehensive Assessment

At Toronto Rehab, we help people recover their abilities and find ways to adapt to any disabilities that remain. We help them regain their independence so that they can safely return to home life, work or school.

Our clients benefit from the expertise of a wide range of skilled rehabilitation professionals who work together in an interprofessional team. Clients receive a diagnosis and a comprehensive assessment that includes:
  • to perform activities of daily living

  • attendant care needs

  • functional capacity evaluation

  • ergonomic assessments

  • job site analysis

Individualized Goal-oriented Treatment

The team then works with individuals to develop an individualized treatment plan to meet their needs and goals. We work collaboratively with individuals and their families, caregivers, family physicians, insurers, employers and local community agencies.

Rehabilitation takes place three to five times a week at our University Site (ABI and stroke) or Hillcrest Site (multiple fractures and injuries). The treatment plan may also include:
  • activities in the community

  • coordination support for a return to work or school

  • meetings with the interprofessional team

The fee for this service is usually covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), automobile insurance, and/or extended health benefits.
