Media Update about SARS and Toronto Rehab

In accordance with provincial directives, the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute is taking precautions to protect patients and staff from contracting SARS. There are currently no cases of SARS at Toronto Rehab. To protect patients and staff from this illness, the following measures are in effect until further notice at all Toronto Rehab centres:
• Outpatient clinics, activities, programs, appointments and day hospital services are cancelled.
• Essential inpatient services, such as dialysis, will continue.
• No visitors are allowed, except for those visiting critically ill or palliative patients. Approved visitors must sign in and wear surgical masks.
• Volunteers should not come to the hospital.
• Non-essential staff members should work from home.
• Students should not come to the hospital.
• New patients are not being admitted.
• Patients are not being discharged to other facilities. However, some patients may be discharged home.
• Hospital access is restricted to one entrance at each site. Staff members are required to show hospital identification.
Toronto Rehab will provide media updates as the situation changes. The hospital appreciates the media's assistance in providing this information to the public.
