Rehabilitation Nursing

It’s time to consider rehabilitation nursing.

There are lots of reasons to choose rehabilitation nursing at one of North America’s leading rehabilitation sciences centres. Here are some of them:

Choose from diverse patient populations
Follow your interests and build your clinical skills and rehabilitation expertise in spinal cord, cardiac, neuro, musculoskeletal or geriatric rehabilitation or complex continuing care. We offer full and part-time work in six programs at five sites.

Use your full range of nursing skills
Rehabilitation nursing calls on all of your nursing competencies and skills. You’ll use complex and technical skills to manage wound care, central lines, trachs and peripheral IVs. You’ll provide psychosocial support to individuals and families as they come to terms with their injury or illness and move through the rehabilitation process. And, you’ll use your teaching and coaching skills to support self-management as individuals regain their independence.

Continue your professional development
At Toronto Rehab, we foster a culture of knowledge. You’ll enhance your competencies and clinical practice skills through workshops, in-services, conferences, online tools and ongoing mentoring by educators and practice leaders. Together with the interprofessional team, you’ll contribute to best practices and research at the bedside. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills through our Nursing Professional Affairs Committee.

Obtain your diploma, baccalaureate or advanced degree
Toronto Rehab offers up to $3000 a year in tuition support to help you continue your formal education. We provide on-site diploma and baccalaureate programs with George Brown College and Ryerson University, an online RPN to BScN program with Nipissing University, and support for nurses who wish to advance their career with studies at the Masters level.

Earn your certification in rehabilitation nursing
Toronto Rehab played a leading role in developing the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) competencies for rehabilitation nursing. We’ll support you in achieving your certification.

Experience rewarding relationships with patients and families
We help people regain their independence and their lives. Patient stays are typically longer than in acute care; our primary nursing model allows you to develop rewarding relationships with patients and families. You’ll use all of your nursing skills to help them regain their abilities, confidence and quality of life.

Participate in clinical research
We ask questions, solve problems and strive for breakthroughs that will allow our patients the best possible recovery. You’ll work side by side leading researchers, participate in clinical research and apply those discoveries to the care you provide.

Develop your supervisory and teaching skills
Toronto Rehab is one of only a handful of academic health sciences centres in Canada specializing in rehabilitation science. You’ll have the opportunity to supervise students and provide hands-on clinical training to some of the nearly 1,000 students a year that are placed with us from the University of Toronto and other colleges and universities across the province and country.

Work with exceptional teams
Toronto Rehab is a recognized leader in interprofessional education and patient care—and home to some of the brightest and most talented people in healthcare. You’ll work with a dedicated team of professionals in a number of disciplines, contributing your skills and expertise to ensure the best possible outcomes for your patients.
