Innovative interventions—improved lives
Toronto Rehab’s rehabilitation research program is one of the largest and most advanced in North America.
We’re also home to the new
iDAPT Centre for Rehabilitation Research—one of the world’s most advanced rehabilitation research environments. Inside our labs, researchers are developing new assistive technologies and treatments and testing them in a real-life setting.
But, research doesn’t just happen in our labs.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in research, working closely with some of the world’s leading rehabilitation researchers. We focus on developing solutions—practical ways to help people recover from serious illness and injury. And, we integrate discoveries into care as we make them.
Some recent examples of clinicians and researchers working together to improve care include:
· Balance and Mobility Clinic – Clinicians and researchers are improving mobility and reducing the risk of falling among stroke survivors using technology developed in Toronto Rehab labs.
· Sleep apnea and Recovery from Stroke – As many as 70 per cent of stroke patients have sleep apnea, which slows their recovery. Researchers and clinicians are testing the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), a small mask placed over the nose during sleep to alleviate the condition and improve recovery.
